On the geology and physiography of a portion of northwestern Colorado and adjacent parts of Utah and Wyoming by White, Charles A. (Charles Abiathar), bounded. Consequently, stress drop can be inferred only indirectly. For example, the. typical method is to calculate the moment and 'infer the stress drop by using the relation between the moment and the stress drop for a circular brack in an infinite boðý. Thus the stress drop is determined from.

stress levels. In situ stress measurements carried out in the area (Munsamy, ; Walker and Altounyan, ) show that the major horizontal stress is substantially higher than the vertical stress. From the available results, horizontal to vertical stress ratios of and were interpreted. To study the possible mechanisms involved in the. A gravity-induced horizontal stress is not the only source for horizontal stress, otherwise horizontal stress would be equal in all horizontal directions; as is the case within the interior of the moon. Unlike the moon, however, the earth has an additional component of horizontal stress because the earth’s outer shell is subdivided into more.

Gaoligong Mountain tunnel is the key project in the Dali-Ruili Railway. In order to optimize the design and guide construction, In-situ stress has been conducted in five boreholes using hydraulic fracturing method, the current shallow crustal in-situ stress state at the project area are obtained according to the measurements results, and deep in-situ stress is predicted using lateral pressure. of the vertical stress component is generally known and is a factor taken into consideration in the design of mine workings. The effect of horizontal stress less used in coal mining. A mine working can be deformed differently, depending on the differing orientation toward the horizontal components of stress.

The horizontal stresses were determined in three mines in the yampa coalfield and one mine in the adjacent Danforth Hills coalfield of northwestern Colorado. Stresses were determined from stress-relief measurements using a three-component borehole deformation gauge and overcoring techniques developed by the Bureau.

[David L Bickel; D A Donato]. In situ horizontal stress determinations in the Yampa coalfield, northwestern Colorado horizontal stresses were determined in three mines in the yampa coalfield and one mine in the adjacent Danforth Hills coalfield of northwestern Colorado.

Stresses were determined from stress-relief measurements using a three-component borehole deformation. Feb.Denver, Colorado Rear Horizontal Stress Abutment Roof damage in the entries and crosscuts in the panels just outby the cave was probably caused by the rear horizontal stress abutment (figure 16).

This abutment did not advance with the mining, but. ri / in situ horizontal stress determination in the yampa coalfield, northwestern colorado, pb, $ 48 ri / cost comparison of gob hole and cross-measure borehole systems to control methane in gobs, pb, $ 15 ri / laboratory assessment of alternative longwall stabilization materials, pb, $ The in situ stress measuring result shows that the maximum horizontal stress is – times of vertical stress and almost times of the minimum horizontal stress in this mineral field.

And the mining-induced stress measuring result shows that, according to the magnitude of front abutment pressure the stress region can be separated.

The Sigra IST (In-situ Stress Tool), developed by Sigra Pty, Ltd. of Australia, is a device for measuring the horizontal in-situ stress field from surface coreholes in advance of underground development. By determining the horizontal stress field prior to mining, the mine layout and production sequence can be optimized to mitigate the effects.

Discharge measurements and sediment samples were taken at streamflow-gaging station Yampa River at Deerlodge Park in and to determine the annual sediment supply to the Yampa Canyon in Dinosaur National Monument.

Forty-three years of discharge records at two tributary sites were combined to determine the historic discharge of the Yampa River at Deerlodge Park.

Brown and Hoek () found that the ratio of the average of the two horizontal stresses to the vertical stress varies widely, from to greater than near the surface and from to at depths be feet. in situ stresses, it became clear that in many cases the horizontal stress actually exceeded the vertical, often by factors of three or more (Dahl and Parsons, ; Hoek and Brown, ).

A number of theories were proposed to explain the presence of horizontal stress. The cumulative effects of changes in dissolved solids from a number of coal mines are needed to evaluate effects on downstream water use.

A model for determining cumulative effects of streamflow, dissolved-solids concentration, and dissolved-solids load was calibrated for the Yampa River and its tributaries in northwestern Colorado. The model uses accounting principles.

The relationship between vertical stress and horizontal velocity is (2) σ = σ 0 + v − v 0 / c a b. Namely, the horizontal velocity is positively correlated with vertical stress. Therefore, the tomographic velocities as Fig. 7 shown can be used to identify high vertical stress areas directly.

Geological Survey, Branch of Information Services, BoxDenver Federal Center, Denver, COUSGS Water-Resources Investigations Report41 p., 25 figs. ABSTRACT A method to determine in situ stress directions and magnitudes from anelastic strain recovery measurements of oriented core has been used to determine the principal horizontal in situ stresses in the Rollins Sandstone in a deep well near Rifle, Colorado.

The principal horizontal stress directions were determined directly from the principal horizontal strain recovery directions. Horizontal stress and longwall headgate ground control Horizontal stress During the past 15 years, horizon tal stress has become central to the understanding of coal mine ground control.

An important breakthrough was the recognition that the stresses observed in coal mines are caused by global plate-tectonic forces (Mark, ). Through data independently measured and collected within m, this paper summaries distribution laws of in-situ stress in deep underground coal mines of our country, main existing types of in-situ stress and its directional characteristics.
